Fault Finding Services

Electrical fault finding is one of the most common tasks Pal Electrical Services carry out, It involves a visual inspection and comprehensive testing of all electrical installations, consumer units / fuseboards and wiring.

To pinpoint the source of the problem, we professionally track electric problems and troubleshoot them fast.

Electrical faults can lead to serious problems such as electric shock and fire, so it’s best to call Pal Electrical Services to find and fix electrical faults in your home or workplace.

L.E.D. Installation

Pal Electrical Services can supply & install super efficient and long lasting LED downlighters.

In the last 2 years, LED’s have dominated the lighting market with their efficiency and the saving potential involved, you could easily save around 90% on your lighting bill.

Initial fixture costs may be higher for some LED lighting solutions than for comparable incandescent and fluorescent lighting solutions. But initial fixture cost does not account for the total cost of owning, operating, and maintaining a lighting system. Because of their long useful life, LED lighting fixtures avoid the maintenance and materials costs which multiple relampings of incandescent fixtures require many hours of operation.

And because LEDs consume far less energy, annual lighting costs can be reduced by up to 90%.

The total cost of LED lighting systems, therefore, can be significantly lower than conventional systems. In fact, payback on LED lighting solutions can often be realised in less than three years.

Light's, Switches & Sockets

If you need extra lights, switches or sockets or would like to change, add or modify to your existing electrical system installation, then Pal Electrical Services can help.

Whether you are looking to add more sockets to your living room, kitchen or bedrooms, or whether you are looking to add more light fittings or replace existing light fittings but are unsure what to do to ensure a safe supply, simply let Pal Electrical Services take care of it all for you.

Our professionally trained and fully qualified electricians are experts at tailoring the electrical system in your home or workplace to suit your requirements. All work is certified by the NICEIC governing body and Part P registered.

Many older properties, unless it’s been rewired in the past and some newer homes, are typically short of plug sockets. Older homes often have a couple of single plug sockets dotted around but not enough to run today’s modern power hungry devices such as televisions, Sky boxes, radios, DVD players, Blu Ray players, surround sound speakers, iPods, mobile phone chargers, etc.

New Consumer Units / Fuse Boards

Pal Electrical Services can replace your old existing rewireable fuseboards with Dual RCD Consumer Units containing Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs) & Residual Current Devices (RCDs).

These consumer units have built-in 30mA protection to limit the risk of electrocution if there was ever a fault plus easily re-set circuit breakers giving safe & accurate protection of circuits.

Fuseboard upgrades are required for various reasons:

Existing earthling devices are obsolete or faulty (eg old fault voltage Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers) Existing Fuse Board is overloaded & requires more outgoing ways for a house extension, new shower circuit etc. New fuse boxes offer easier resetting of devices in case of a fault. Fuse wire is no longer needed & new devices cannot be fitted with the wrong size of fuse wire.

The installation of RCDs for protection against fatal electric shock.

The correct size of protective device is essential to disconnect any circuit in case of a fault that could cause a fire or electric shock. Different size cables can carry different size loads, if a cable is overloaded it will get hot. Everything has a use by date. If your home still has a ceramic fuse box with re-wireable fuses in the meter box or anelectrical fuse box with no MCBs or RCDs, then it has passed its use by date, and your fuse box is an electrical hazard.

Today’s New Consumer Units are fitted with Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs) and Residual Current Devices (RCDs) which cut the electricity when there is an electrical fault. This can save your electrical cables catching on fire or even save a life from electrocution.

Re-Wires

Over the years, many types of wiring made from various materials have been used to wire houses. Some of the older wiring systems (usually pre-1970s) are extremely dangerous and if you have these older types of wiring in your house they pose a significant risk to you and your property.

Some of these potentially hazardous types of wiring are:

Rubber- A double insulated cable with aluminium wire that becomes brittle over time and literally falls apart when disturbed. This leaves exposed live conductors in your roof space and behind power points and light fittings.

Cotton insulated wiring- This is a single insulated cotton covered cable. Over time the cotton deteriorates and leaves exposed live conductors in your roof space and behind power points and light fittings.

Old, faulty wiring can cause a multitude of problems throughout the house, from failing lights, over-heating and overloaded cables, through to sockets that no longer work.

However, the biggest issue is that of safety.

At Pal Electrical Services, we ensure the work is done with minimal mess and disruption to your daily routine. Our fully qualified electricians take care to ensure the minimum of interference whilst giving you total piece of mind. After all, it is better to replace worn electrical cabling before it has a chance to cause a fire or becomes an electrical shock hazard.

Fire Detectors & Smoke Alarms

Smoke alarms can help save lives by providing occupants with early warning about house fires. Fitting a smoke alarm in your home will help you protect your family by getting them out quickly if a fire was to occur.

Landlords are also responsible for ensuring a working smoke alarm is installed in the property.

Pal Electrical Services can provide a fire alarm design and installation service to provide an electrical powered interlinked system (with an internal battery backup) to constantly protect your property and its occupants.

We deliver systems which comply with BS5839 for home or domestic dwelling and BS5839 for Commercial and Industrial.

The BS 5839: Pt.6 Code of Practice became the most important set of recommendations ever made on fire safety in the home. It had an immediate impact on architects, system designers, installers and landlords in the private or public sector, all of whom were required to familiarise themselves with these important recommendations.Landlords in particular needed to abide by these recommendations, as legal liability with regard to ‘duty of care’ would undoubtedly become a serious issue should a fire occur in an inadequately protected property.

Smoke alarms should be installed in a convenient location to give occupants reasonable warning when they are asleep. Depending on the size and layout of your home, it may be necessary to install more than one smoke alarm to provide sufficient warning.

Which alarm is best for you?

There are three main types of smoke detectors;

(a) Ionization smoke alarms are usually better for detecting flames. So if you live in a wooden house, with lots of combustible furnishings, an ionization alarm is probably best for you.

(b) hotoelectric smoke alarms are usually better for detecting smoke. If you live in a home where a fire will smoke before bursting into flame, a photoelectric alarm will work well.

(c) Heat detectors are normally installed where smoke can be present briefly such as a kitchen or garage and will sound an alarm if the temperature reaches +54ºC.

All of the alarms that we supply and install are all interconnectable so that they can all work together and are easy to maintain and upgradable should you add more rooms in the future.

Inspection Reports

There are around 30 deaths and 4,000 accidents annually in the UK involving electrics. If you let property in England & Wales you must ensure that electrical equipment and the electrical system are safe.

It is the duty of every landlord to make sure that the property that they are renting is fit for the purpose for which it is intended. This includes the fixed electrical wiring.

Every landlord should have a Landlord Electrical Safety Certificate for each property they own.

You should ensure that tenants are given copies of operating and safety instructions for ALL supplied electrical equipment in the premises and you should carry out regular checks to ensure tenant safety.

Why are the inspection reports required at each change of tenancy?

This is to verify that the previous tenant has not damaged or changed the electrical system in any way.

The electrical safety certificate ensures that the fixed electrical wiring is in a satisfactory state of repair and is able to remain in service.

If you are unfortunate enough to have a problem of an electrical nature while you property is being rented, you may be liable.

It will be up to you to prove that the electrical installation was fit for service at the time of renting and that the onus of blame lies elsewhere. Your up to date electrical safety certificate will ensure that you can do this.
